Didn’t have any plays yesterday but am coming off a 2-1 day on Wednesday and now nearly at 56% for the season through 34 plays. I’m happy with the way things have gone so far this year and being low volume has worked out well. Despite the small schedule today I did find some action, here’s what I’ve got…

St. Johns (+5): Arizona State is off to a great start this year at 7-0 and as a team their offensive numbers are quite impressive. Hurley is doing some nice work out in the desert and the offense is fun to watch. The duo of Holder and Evans in the back court are very entertaining and the numbers right now are nice and gaudy. That said their defensive numbers leave a lot to be desired. On the year so far the Sun Devils rank 177th in defensive efficiency and in their biggest wins it’s been their offense going nuts that has made up for shaky work on the defensive end. Tonight in LA against St. Johns they’ll face the best defense they’ve seen so far this year. The Red Storm are 21st in defensive efficiency, 3rd in forcing turnovers, 4th in 2 point FG% defense, 4th in blocks, and 5th in steals. You get the idea… this is an elite defensive team. Point being that Arizona State uses that nice offense to cover up the shaky defense and tonight that might not be a recipe that works. Unfortunately for St. Johns it doesn’t look like LoVett will be able to give it a go tonight with a knee injury and that likely means more minutes for the Freshman Trimble at the 2. I won’t deny that the loss of LoVett hurts but I think that line at 5 is a bit inflated. Even with him out I’d have this line at 2.5 so with what I perceive to be a 2.5 points of value I’ll happily jump in there with the Red Storm.
